Fragrance Overview

Time to share secrets.  A big reason I got on my pedestal early on in my reviews is because I was sitting on bottles of this in my collection.  Hoping other companies had taken the care that was put into something like Bogue.  Yeah, welcome to the new golden age of perfume.  The junkyeah, junkin most people's fragrance hauls and what's out there is chemicals, barrels of mass-produced refinement of crude.   Not here; this is painstakingly cared for distilling, giving us something that is over-the-top original and enhancing the ingredients.  Connecting us to the flowers.  There is no faking this depth.  This is all in; I repeat, this is all in.  It's special what comes from this bottle.  This is passion and heart shared with us. Overall, this is hands down the best lavender on the market.  Keep in mind, this is about all around lavender that you most likely have never smelled.  He has distilled his own stuff here, and you aren’t getting this at a discounter or strip mall.  Blood, sweat, and tears is what this is about, and we are the benefactors of a new modern smell to enjoy.

Fragrance Reviews

You put this on, and you can see the genius right away.  There is a lot of thought that went into the composition of this fragrance.  The perfumer is giving us lessons here.  Lessons on simplicity and complexity.  The simplistic part is taking one ingredient and extracting every ounce of scent nuance that it has to offer.  How one herbal note can be a base ingredient, heart ingredient, and top layer.  The lavender aromatics you know and love will come out in the sillage.  Clean heart notes of lavender will show up, and straight-up animalic notes of an herb are present.  One of the strongest menthol notes in peppermint is used in the heart layer as a supporting cast member.  Every time I have smelled peppermint or used it myself, it always has come out as a top note, but here it emerges in the heart of the fragrance. The other floral notes provide backbone to the floral animalic qualities of the fragrance.  None really show up on their own, including the rose. The Siam benzoin, rosewood, sandalwood, Himalayan cedarwood, labdanum, ambergris, musk, castoreum, civet, and amber are a base accord that comes together also.  Everything about this fragrance is about completion. Citruses show up.  My favorite perfumes are when everything harmonizes as a note together and gives off a fragrance that is its own scent, its own mark on the world, and this is what we have here.

MEM by Bogue is a Oriental Fougere fragrance for women and men. This is a new fragrance. MEM was launched in 2017. The nose behind this fragrance is Antonio Gardoni. Top notes are petitgrain, mandarin orange, grapefruit, lavender, lavender extract, wild lavender and blue lavender; middle notes are ylang-ylang, champaca, damask rose, bourbon geranium, vanilla, mint, laurels and malt; base notes are siam benzoin, palisander rosewood, sandalwood, himalayan cedar, labdanum, ambergris, amber, musk, castoreum, and civet.

“Collection Worthy!!!”

  1. You were getting eaten by bugs; needed some lemongrass added! ????
Mem sounds more complex than I had imagined. I’m gonna sample Bogue (maybe in a couple months ????since I need to slow down). Same perfumer as TRex, right?

  2. Mem is a masterpiece, avantgarde and wearable at the same time, mysterious and beautiful at the same time. This is perfume art at it's best. If I'll ever get rich I'm going to use Antonio's bespoke service and create something really sinister. P.s love the 80's porn music

  3. So, I just sampled MEM this weekend… WOW! I love lavender, and fougeres in general, but this is on another level. I’m stunned by how beautiful and complex this is—floral, animalic, herbal, burnt sugar, halitosis, bubblegum… just ridiculous, arresting, and addictive. I’ve been smelling my wrist nonstop.

Love your review style and definitely feel this needs to be in my collection. Just curious, do you have other fougeres or lavender-heavy scents in your collection? Did this take the place of any?

    1. This one is definitely the unique fougere with a centric lavender focus. Rogue's Fougere L'aube I have, it is a remade classic I have a review of it on the channel. Laura Biagiotti for men uomo edt and Paco Rabanne tenere are some classic fougeres I picked up as vintages with that real oakmoss in them. Covered them a bit in a top ten classics video. But none like Mem it is the stand out.

    2. Therapeutic Fragrance great to hear, thanks for sharing! I currently have Azzaro Pour Homme, Sartorial, and Caron Pour Un Homme as my lavender heavy scents. Love Sartorial, but MEM is next level.

Perfect timing on me watching MEM reviews (yours and Wafts from the Loft) and sampling it this past weekend—wife asked me what I wanted as an anniversary gift and I have just the answer for her! Cheers.

  4. Finally we have it in Australia. I know you don't nominate many as collection worthy. I ordered a sample now…..have high hopes with this one 🙂
