How? I Apply the Fragrance

If my favorite perfumer comes out with a new perfume, do you think I’m not going to notice? Yeah, I stuck my neck out here. All my fragrance review buddies tell me in private they think I’m crazy. But my nose knows. You can’t fool me. I’ve put out a ton of reviews. You can’t smell this much stuff and not know house DNAs. When a certain perfumer builds a house accord, you get to know that smell. Especially when it’s one of my most favorite, one of the most covered on my channel, you can’t sneak this past me. I bought this blind from LuckyScent because it was advertised as having real ambergris. I set the package aside when I got it for a while, and when I finally opened it and smelled it, I noticed it reminded me of Baikal Gris by Areej la Dore. I went back and looked through all the real ambergris scents on Luckyscent. Could there be any other perfumer that could make this? It seems like a ton of reviewers got free bottles of Silver Ambergris. I can see where the perfumer’s respect lies. I am sick of the perfume commercials, so I think the fact that this was sent out anonymously to a lot of reviewers that aren’t familiar with real ambergris means the perfumer deserves what he got. There were a few reviewers that handled it well and dissected the juice professionally, but most didn’t spend enough time analyzing this, and these are the reviewers that regularly praise their free Areej la Dore bottles. The human part of me feels like my nose should have been trusted by the perfumer to put this out there, but I’m going to set that aside. I’m becoming a different person on this journey. I go by juice alone, and I’m always going to share my honest opinion when I review. Some reviewers questioned if this was real ambergris, but if you get away from synthetics, you easily can tell this is packed with it. It literally is an ambergris fragrance, which the bottle leads you to believe it is. Russian Adam, are we still friends? On to the juice: this smells familiar. This smells like a better Baikal Gris, more purified clean air rather than muddied and clay like. Even though it is grey, it comes off as very fresh. It is clean with a slight soapy edge to it and some animalics. This smells like driving the Oregon curves on the Coastal Range, up and down, left and right on a perfect day, windows down, smelling the salty fresh air change the whole way. There’s nothing in this that will blow up on your skin. It’s beautiful with some frangipani on top and some slight citrus. The sweetened citrus burns off, leaving florals and soft woods (maybe a sandalwood or rosewood). This is an easy-to-wear fragrance that will layer with so many things. It’s awesome to use to add flair to your other perfumes; try it with your favorite rose. You will be surprised.  I wouldn’t call this a complete composition, but the name lets you know this is primarily an ambergris scent. A trip to the ocean is just a spray away.

    1. The perfumer stated he wanted his work to stand on it's own like his name gave him an advantage. Will see I really put myself out there on this. Russian Adam will be getting a huge gift basket from me if I'm wrong. Appreciate your feedback Benjamin.

  1. I don't like these super tiny samples, I can't see myself pay for 0.7 ml of anything because that's kind of a one-shot deal isn't it? A 2 ml sample is OK, that's worth something to me.

    1. @Therapeutic Fragrance I have Baikal Gris and I love it… but I wish it had florals or something. It sounds like maybe this isn't for me. Wafts from the Loft weren't as laudatory as you were!

    2. I'll have to see what they said. I only watched there part on the gold one, they seemed to like it, I haven't smelled it. I wouldn't have as much knowledge if I didn't own a bunch of ambergris and study it. I would not be able to detect the way I do. But when you have to buy a big batch when ready to create it's knowledge I have to have or money down the drain. My main focus is base layers and ingredients if you watch my reviews closer that's what I really specialize in the DNA of the perfume the secret sauce if you will. This is silver ambergris to a T.

    3. @Therapeutic Fragrance Yes, they liked the gold one, and felt the other two were just there to make it a set. They certainly have a different angle, if you will, on fragrances. Personally, I'm just the consumer and I want the whole picture to speak to me. Quality of ingredients does make a huge difference it seems, but composition too. Currently I have three Areej le Dore scents that are all amazingly well composed and shine from beginning to end, and the other ones (including Nasomattos and Tom Fords) seem to lack so much development over time. Nothing's happening, they just fade into nothing. I just got a few Guerlain samples, I'm curious to see what they do. Also, many artificial fragrances "wear out your nose" much more quickly it seems. Scents kind of "sting" (really, I can actually feel it) in the back of your nose and then your nose stops working properly until you give it a rest. I feel that this effect is often very poorly and vaguely described without going into depth about the real sensation or cause of it. This is worst with really crappy scented candles and products like that (Bath & Body Works products and the likes).

    1. Therapeutic Fragrance I've never tried anything from this line tbh but the name intrigued me.I hope it's a great month too as I found the new bortnikoff cologne line pretty meh!

    1. @Therapeutic Fragrance yeah. When they sent out 4 free parfum cologne bottles to like 25 reviewers.. not a single one had anything negative to say. I definitely watched a bunch of commercials.

    1. Therapeutic Fragrance I mildly dislike 07738 now. I can tolerate it but it’s not a like. I’m not a fan of the Bogue ylang ylang accord, one reason I sold off my newer bottle of MAAI . It’s better then Doleur which I dislike completely. Both MAAI and Gardelia are my favourites. T-Rex comes after. MEM, I’m neutral at the moment. It just doesn’t connect with me.

  2. Great video Brandon. I’d really recommend Golden Ambergris, I definitely enjoyed that most of the three. If it is RA it’s quite a departure from his marketing style. He’s only ever sent out samples to the likes of Nikhil and Kafkaesque, so an interesting choice to be sending out full bottle sets to people who have never tried his work before . It’s also a real nosedive in terms of quality of packaging. If it is him he’s really cutting corners there, most unlike his other bottles.

    1. This is one of those cases where I had the notes done and then double checked myself right before shooting the video on YouTube reviews. Was stunned to see that in the Organic search of Google three people had masks on reflecting the house. I thought I would be the first as I picked it up from lucky Scent the day they released this. I obviously sat on it, but honestly never saw a video. So the whole section before the review was Improv and not my usual style. Some regret on that section would of been different if I watched the videos when all you guys released them.
Yeah the only section of your video I have seen is the Golden Ambergris as I forwarded to the end to see all of your guesses who did videos. About it being Russian Adam, it really smells to close to Baikal Gris. I have not seen packaging in hand so I have to take all your words for it. And not many people play with this much real ambergris period.
I have smelled almost all houses on Lucky Scent that deal in naturals and nothing else adds up period. Maybe Bortnikoff thus the small inclusion in the title, but RA loves playing, which I love about him. I actually wish I wasn't so harsh about the anonymous thing in my dialogue. Was caught off guard right before I went on camera. Wish I would of been more positive.
Your channel and work is all class.
I do know he has sent out to more people regarding Areej. I think brands should send bottles to reviewers and build trust. And this is a bigger conversation how that gets presented afterwards. Everyone of you guys were straight up and you did it right. If I was able to sit on it for a night my improv would be different (I broke my own rule always sit on a rant overnight, it's why I stay away from lives in general) it actually took balls for this perfumer to do this, especially if it is RA. He probably got more honesty than he bargained for. My review of the perfume I've had written up for over a month. First line I wrote was how much it smelled of Baikal on April 24th.
Sorry for long response but backing away from the perfume now I have to see that this has to do with some of my favorite people in the community as well, Cheers from the Northwest.

  3. I dislike the concept of this house. Don't think it's Adam. Prissana haxan is back you should at least get a sample, it has an incredible artistic value but it's also very wearable, did you get your hands on rasei fort's la whatever? Looks like something you would like

    1. Have you tried the house? Would love you to wear Baikal and then this one and let me know if you get that.

Your in the popularity of no one thinking it's Adam.

Haxan I have heard some questionable things about current formula compared to past. Sounds like the quality went way down. I don't have original to compare against, but would love your take on that. I loved Kolonya and most all of Rasei's work. One of the few that I can't put that DNA signature on. But has a consistent style of fresh.

    2. Therapeutic Fragrance ו'll sample this one next time I'll order samples from luckyscent, I believe the new Haxan have been on his site only for a couple of days so it's strange that someone has the time to get it and compare it to the old formula. Anyway it's a Rajesh collaboration and it has goat hair tincture in it so I advise you to sample it
