Fragrance Overview
Wasn’t expecting this. Was thinking we were going to get a rich fall fragrance with heavy resins and pumpkin. It must be that beautiful color of the juice or the season it was released, but Serin could not be farther from those assumptions. It is a beautiful perfume that speaks as art. I get more and more impressed with John over on the East Coast with each release. Not giving into trends or hype, just driving in his own lane on a windy, scenic road. One that brings forth combinations that most of us never get to see. How his head works, I don’t know, but I hope January Scent Project keeps it up. Always a treasure when I get to wear a fragrance from the house.
I am in this game for compositions that inspire and get my creativity going, and every one of the January Scent Project perfumes has helped me do this. It is the house for me when I want a creativity boost.
Fragrance Review
Down to business. The mint is the shining note for me when first applied. It provides a cloud for the rest of the composition to go up and down on. The guaiac and smoke are just gentle sparks here. Citrus plays behind the mint and provides an extra-fresh vibe to the fragrance. Along with the citrus note, fruit is coming in from somewhere, a fresh apple.
The florals provide top nuances that act as easy aromas that come and go. Was expecting something a lot more dirty with the marigold and calendula, but that never comes across, as the mint just breathes an interesting accord with them. Maybe heliotrope is helping also. But nothing with the exception of the mint comes out as a singular note. Smoke—I do get smoke also, but not even the incense comes across as its own note, which surprises me the most. It’s hard to have that in a composition.
This feels like an amber. I wouldn’t say gourmand, but it is sweet.
This is something I look for in my perfumes. I am wanting to buy new accords and profiles, and that is absolutely being delivered here.
Overall, this is another great option in the lineup. Powered by a fresh air smoke mint with an accord that is new to the world. A true artist delivering his long hours in the studio for us to go out and make this world smell a little better.
