Fragrance Overview

Ghaliyah' was a term used in the medieval Arabian tradition to refer to perfumes created using the most precious aromatics - typically ambergris, musk, and oud being the star ingredients. This was a mission of a perfumer to seek out the rarest, most precious materials and blend them for the most important person in the land: kings, queens, sultans, and rulers. This, my fragrance family, has been handled very seriously in this formulation.  Just a few hundred years ago, we would not be able to touch something like this unless we were one of the two above. Welcome to royalty. I couldn't script what has happened the last two month to get to this point. I thought I was pretty much ready to move forth into a different part of my journey, but then just a bunch of compositions came into the market this is one of the heights of all of them. Whoever said perfumery is going down is smelling the wrong stuff it is alive and vibrant. Ambergris, Musk, Ouds, Saffron all form the air you want to breathe. This is pouring liquid gold onto your skin. Glaliyat Tareeq Al Hareer is Holy Anointing Oil as one of my friends wrote to me.
Glaliyat Tareeq Al Hareer is Holy Anointing Oil
This scent reminds me of Song of Songs Chapter 4 from The Passion Translation.  Here are a few verses from that chapter:  “Now you are ready, my bride, to come with me as we climb the highest peaks together. Come with me through the archway of trust.[f] We will look down[g] from the crest of the glistening mounts and from the summit of our sublime sanctuary. Together we will wage war in the lion’s den and the leopard’s lair as they watch nightly for their prey. For you reach into my heart. With one flash of your eyes I am undone by your love, my beloved, my equal, my bride. You leave me breathless— I am overcome by merely a glance from your worshiping eyes, for you have stolen my heart.[h] I am held hostage by your love and by the graces of righteousness shining upon you.[i] 10 How satisfying to me, my equal, my bride. Your love is my finest wine—intoxicating and thrilling. And your sweet, perfumed praises—so exotic, so pleasing.” Look when I started sitting down dreaming of concoctions to put together I would dream up of course all the best ingredients and mixing them. And then I bought a few and chickened out. If you mess up these ingredients in a composition that is expensive and I want to wear them by themselves. This is the artist taking some of the best ingredients he could find, not just one or two, but many different facets. Some with really good age on them. And going all out. This is swinging for the fences. All of these ouds, ambergris, deer musk then get married with pure gold. This is super delicate. I recommend literally wearing under your nose just the littles bits at a time. It doesn’t overwhelm at all. My wrist wearing are super soft and really didn’t provide much projection at all Let’s be very very clear. This is subtle you see all the notes I have worn this every morning up to shooting this video since I got this. I know how special it is and I am trying to rush to let everyone know so my subscribers are in the know. Every time I put this on it’s different. It shuts me up and takes me to places. Places that I would have never imagined. It’s literally a journey of the best of the best. Every time it ends all I can think is I need to make sure I have this experience forever. And Friends and Family we will. If the earth can bring forth and touch our senses so deep just think what’s next that’s the places I go and they get a ton deeper than that. There is so much to explore it’s amazing this Ghaliyat is proof of this. Fragrance in my opinion compared to Perfumes Notes I smell the Musk and Mysore maceration with Saffron showing strong. Now that I have played with a bunch of frankincense by itself with it’s crisp tang I can pick it up here. It almost has a sharp citrus squeeze at the top also. This is thing is about so many delicacies. It is fine touched. A huge mineral quality to this, must be the gold? I don’t know if I have ever smelled this much gold at once. Musk, musk maceration, soft leathers, resins, light woods. Then I dive back into it and I get florals galore deep and light florals that I have never experienced this quality before.
This is for Oud and Musk lovers.
  • Ambergris, musk, ouds, and saffron all form an air you want to breathe.
  • This is pouring liquid gold onto your skin. Ghaliyat Tareeq Al Hareer is holy anointing oil, as one of my friends described it to me.
  • Look, when I started to sit down and dream of concoctions to put together, I would dream up mixing all the best ingredients. And then I bought a few materials and chickened out.  If you mess up these ingredients in a composition, that is an expensive risk, and I want to wear them by themselves.

  • If the earth can bring forth such beauty and touch our senses so deep, just think what’s next. That’s the thinking I go to, and I can get a ton deeper than that. There is so much to explore, it’s amazing. This Ghaliyat is proof of how much beauty is out there.

Fragrance Review

  • I smell the musk and Mysore maceration with saffron showing strong. Now that I have played with a bunch of frankincense by itself, with its crisp tang, I can pick it up here. It almost has a sharp citrus squeeze at the top.
  • This thing has a delicate touch.
  • There is a distinct mineral quality to this. Perhaps it is due to the gold? I don’t know if I have ever smelled this much gold at once.
  • Obvious notes are musk, musk maceration, soft leathers, resins, and light woods.
  • Then I dive back into it, and I get florals galore, deep and light florals that I have never experienced of this quality. Pull out the Red camera, because this stuff deserves to have its aroma waves shot with something like that. The best of the best.
  • There are no strong specific transitions but rather a symphony. There are so many facets and notes here that could be pulled out. This is about enjoying a feast, an overload to the nose. Balanced, mixed, and in harmony. The exception is the final drydown of a wonderful deer musk.
From what I know about Ghaliyat, it literally is a marriage of ingredients. This is for oud and musk lovers. This is a clean profile of a plethora of ouds. You are getting hit with every imaginable oud facet there is, but it’s not heavy. The oud is just perfect air that sits on top of musk and santal. Aromatics are abundant in this. All that is available to royalty is now available to us. This is an oud lover’s Ghaliyat. The cream at the very top of the oud mountain. It’s gold. It’s an aged oud. It’s almost every facet of oud has to offer, yet it is restrained. It’s what musk is all about. The deep place oud holds in so many cultures is all bound within this.

  1. Thank you! I love your review. speaking of the deeper emotional and spiritual dimension that the art of perfume can evoke. Please let me know the poem you spoke.

    1. Hey there Karen, it was Song of Solomon 4. Just couldn't believe reading that with the experience of fragrance in mind. It opened it up a lot to me. Especially wearing something like Ghaliyat Tareeq Al Hareer.

    1. Thanks Van! I really am blown away of what I have experienced the last two months. All of it unexpected at the levels I experienced. Something that just drives me for something else I'm gonna keep going until the drive is gone.

  2. Glad you enjoy this one , smelling a really good fragrance could be a spiritual experience. This is the time to spend time with our special and artistic compositions , how are things in Portland? , is the city shut down? Mine is.

    1. Portland is getting worse by the day. But we are creative and bold and always think outside the box. Our famed food carts instead of opening business made food for the people laid off. Yes this is a time to reflect on what we have my favorite type of reflection.

  3. WoW! I have to get this. Also looking at Iris Chypre that you suggested earlier and Al-Ghaliyah Bulgare Fleuri Et Animalique, did you like that one after giving it some time? Hope you're staying safe up there. My son lives in Seaside, you guys are a little ahead of the curve on this than the rest of us but we're locked down now too.

    1. Everything is well. Yeah I think for the most part the U.S. is a little behind. Iris Chypre from my experience is a must if you have to choose. The Al-Ghaliyah Bulgare Fleuri is special but very delicate and expensive. It is something you won't experience anywhere else, but it is light for what it is. I could easily where what I bought in three wearings for as much as I want to apply, but just not economically feasible.

You must visit your son a lot, that's a great getaway over there.

    2. @Therapeutic Fragrance Thanks for the insight, it's much appreciated! Yes, I love visiting out there. I had a trip planned for the first of next month, but that's obviously shelved for now. Looking forward to getting back up there as soon as I can though.

  4. You know the Voyager Golden Records that were sent into space to represent humanity on Earth? This could be the perfume we send into deep space ~ to be found long after the Earth is gone ~ to represent the fragrance of our planet…..

  5. I’m not underestimating V importance in every blend, of the blending process… But this just sounds like a mess that is designed to overwhelm the senses into delight
As well as to offer guaranteed guaranteed source of profit return to the maker… All those expensive oils in one bottle, sometimes I feel that the real artisan using a few precious oils perCreation

  6. On a Ghaliya this is the defined purpose of it the best of the best oils all together. Worn and saved for only the best of occasions. A rare prize to own. Blended correctly all these layers form a fantastic Elixir.

  7. @Therapeutic Fragrance yesi do comprehend that there must be an undeniable skill behind the crafting of this perfume, with a olafactorist and perfumer, Is that this type of perfume is a symbol of excess, I know it’s not supposed to be modest and I know that I have not smelt it myself.
But, there is something with these sorts of creations, that suggest elitism
Excessiveness, sensory overwhelming pomp and decadence.
Perhaps just a viewpoint that I’m standing at, Yet, somehow I feel that perfume should be as accessible as possible to the larger population/public.
That’s one thing and the other is that precious, fine ingredient materials should be used sparingly and as close to singularly between each layer of a perfume(Face, heart, top) so that they might sing between the layers and be exalted.

I probably read like some sort of puritanical absolutist, But I’m really just offering my considerations on the culture of perfume and how it preserves certain problems in our society, making people opt for synthetics at all cost when we should really be championing natural materials bye finding ways to incorporate precious oils into blends largely composed of less expensive ingredients.
Perhaps it is just where I am positioned in my critique at the moment and I might be subject to change at a later point,
