How? I Apply the Fragrance

Go Nuts

Rasa's 2020 batch is a bit different from the 2019 version. There are batch variations because Rachel tinctures ingredients herself. She's taken wine-making skills and brought them in, to put fruit into perfumery. She uses the concept of terroir (using materials available in a specific region) to build her perfumes.

You are not going to get the passion fruit note that I fell in love with in the 2019 version. You are, however, going to get a lot of other stuff (you'll get your money's worth, and then some. It costs the same, but it's worth more). There is some seriously good oud in here.

This perfume is alive. There is just something in there that your body wants more of. Yes, it is expensive, but she is doing something with natural perfume that no one else is doing. Most of the natural perfumers are using isolates to get those natural smells. Isolates leave the bright smell of the natural ingredient, help it last longer, but there is no benefit from the natural ingredient with this method (there is no negative effect, either, but it's worth pointing out). Here, you are getting some of the best natural perfume in the world.

Rasa 2020 would be great as an attar. I see Rasa 2020 as a winter edition of Rasa 2019. You get a smoky, resinous, beautiful dark oud. There are five ouds in here (from just one in Rasa 2019). She added oud from Ensar Oud in addition to the Rising Phoenix oud. There are no barnyard or fecal oud notes here. The pink lotus is not as aromatic as the 2019 version, but adds a touch of sweetness along with the osmanthus. It's a complete oud session.

In the 2021 version, she will be bringing back the passionfruit at the top. She has samples available of her perfumes on her site; it's worth checking out.

  1. 2021 wont be released until 2021 but I will be releasing rasa smoke this fall and 2021 Rasa will be more similar to 2019 but with additional longevity and the oud bomb will go into the Rasa smoke which I’m making with my aged redwood extractions. Thank you so much for this review!

    1. @Pomare5 Thanks for the advice, that was super helpful! Looks like I'll have to go foraging for redwood sap =). Given the fires and how little the trees produce oils, it might take a while.

  2. And here Brandon keeps pouring gasoline onto the burning wreck that is my bank account. All kidding aside, keep the great content coming brother, I just placed an order and can't wait to check it out!

    1. LOL Ryan. I am afraid we are going to look back on this year as the greatest releases from Indie houses ever. As demand grown there is almost no way to keep the quality of materials. Materials will eventually be sacrificed for volume. It's an unfortunate truth.

  3. Great review! I agree, it does seem fittingly to close your bottle coverage with this… The purity of what this is, the positivity and realness of your review… Living perfume, no cheating… Thank you for saving the best for last.

  4. I tried a sample of this! I love my indie people but unfortunately it was a major let down. I must have gotten the batch with less passion fruit because I got none. I'm from the Caribbean and very familiar with and love passion fruit but none to be found. The oud was legit but the perfume overall lacks character.. maybe those isolates would have helped ???? would have loved to try the 2019!

    1. Just because I have both I can tell what the passion fruit is doing in the 2020 yes not the same. I don't know if you wear oud or not, but 2020 is like wearing an oud. 2019 undoubtedly you would be able to smell that Caribbean love. What part of the Caribbean I've only been to Trinidad and Tobago. BTW she says 2021 will guarantee to have the passion fruit top back and I'm sure I see a sample being sent your way:)

  5. You are killing me dude, your very high standards and glowing review of Rasa caused me to blind buy a full bottle.
If I did not like it as much, I will ask you for a refund 😉
Can not wait to smell what you did

  6. Be sure you watched the whole review it is what it is. The 2020 is like wearing Oud it's packed with Oud in it. 5 kinds both Ensar and Rising Phoenix. It's a different wearing like wearing oud. Your new so I need to feel you out, but if you buy and wear oud you should love it.

  7. @Therapeutic Fragrance I sprung for a small bottle of the 2020, just to try it. Like you said, the opening is totally different from the 2019. In fact, it took a bit before I could even recognize the OG Rasa DNA. Really good stuff, though. Whichever oud(s) she chose for the 2020 pair so well with the other notes.
